Reflexology is a therapeutic method using the feet, with the feet acting as a reflection of the whole body. From ancient texts, illustrations and artifacts, we know that the early Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health. Today it is getting more and more popular as a form of preventative health care and relaxation tool and also there are many who use it to alleviate symptoms/illness of the body being out of balance. There are many theories for how reflexology works and I can relate to a few, but ultimately I can feel the connections to the whole body whilst I connect to a persons feet. The feet are a microcosm of the whole body i.e. a mini map, and as I walk my fingers over the feet I can feel areas of imbalance and then use certain techniques to help balance those energies, treating the person holistically i.e. physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Balancing a persons energy improves their energy flow and supports the healing capacities of the body.
